There has been a lot of social controversy around the issue of transgender rights in the United States. However, there are many scientific facts about transgender people that one side tends to ignore. Here is a list of three scientific, proven facts about trans people.
1. They are born that way
People are born the way they are. Everyone is born straight, gay, bi, male, female, or transgender. While being formed within the womb, a fetus is genetically wired to be who they will be if they are born. Science has proven that the transgender social issues are definitely similar to the bigoted oppression that faced the United States in the 1950’s and 60’s.
Science determined that the “x” and “Y” chromosomes determine physical gender for an individual at conception. However, it has also proven that The sexual preferences and beliefs of these individuals can genetically differ than the sex chromosomes can indicate.
2. Gender is fluid
Gender identity is a socially fluid idea that can shift with a person’s mood, ideas, or even with the weather. Gender is also non-binary, meaning that there are more genders than just the traditional “male” and “female.”
For example, a genetically male person may discover that they have always felt like a genetically female person. This person can then identify as a woman and live as a woman. If they then later decide to live as a man again, they certainly can. Their self-identity is their choice and should be legally reinforced by those around them. A more inclusive society is key.
3. Transgender People are at risk
Transgender people are 22 times more likely to attempt suicide than cis-gender people. Suicide, as well as other harmful psychological disorders are more prevalent in the trans community.
This certainly must be because of the oppressive culture that opposes transgender people. It cannot be anything close to the fact that a genetically male person cannot actually know what it’s like to be a woman and is simply living a delusion.
