Fruit is an important part of a healthy diet. They are often full of needed nutrients and fiber.
However, not all fruits are created equal. Some are rich in one vitamin, while others are lacking in the same.
The solution is simple, creating hybrid fruits like some kind of agricultural Frankenstein.
Hybridization can combine two different fruits, creating something new that has the best of both. Combine a plum and an apricot to form a pluot. Combine a tangerine and a grapefruit to form a tangelo.
The hybridization process used to require laboratory environments with years of experimentation to create new fruit. Science has since discovered that they were going about it the wrong way.
The easiest way to create a new hybrid is to simply cut pieces off of two fruits, sandwich them together, and plant it. You can follow this video to create your own banawiwi – a cross between a banana and a kiwi.
These results seem very promising. Using this technique, the possibilities for new fruit are endless.
The staff here at Ersatz strongly encourages our readers to try this technique with a variety of fruit. Share your results in the comments.
Here is a list of combinations we would like to see:
- Apple and avocado
- Naval oranges and cherry tomatoes
- Kale and anything that doesn’t taste like crap
While this new hybridization process is exciting, we are still decades away from the pinnacle of food – pizza that is as healthy as a kale salad, but still tastes delicious.
